Details About Cidermaking SPECIAL TOPIC - Assisted Evaluation of Your Cider

About Scheduling a Private Instruction

This is a "Special Topic" available as part of our home cidermaking lesson plan. Our private instruction lesson plans are instruction only.  They do not include beverage/food production on site or any beverage/food handling.

Assisted Evaluation of YOUR CIDER

*PRE-REQUISITE REQUIRED - Before we will accept an appointment for this lesson, the student should first complete the preparatory Lesson 6 - Cider Flaws - How to Avoid or Fix Them.  In order to provide you with useful evaluation of your wine, it is critical the we first provide you with an overview of the common problems and available solutions that can be applied to your cider.  Once you have completed Lesson 6, we will be happy to provide assisted evaluation on any cider you may like our help with.  Also, you may find that you are better able to evaluate and adjust your ciders without consultation.

Haven't taken Lesson 6 yet?  No problem, you can book both lessons at the same time.  Follow these steps:

Step 1 -  Schedule Lesson 6 using the Scheduling Button above.

Step 2 - After you have scheduled Lesson 6 with us, immediately schedule this lesson in the time slot available immediately after your Lesson 6 appointment.

Approximate lesson time: Variable, likely 20-60 minutes.  Time will be based on the amount of assistance and consultation the student desires.

This Special Topic Lesson Plan Includes:

  • Using skills and sensory tools from Lesson 6 (Cider Flaws & How to Avoid or Fix Them), instructor will taste with you and provide sensory feedback.
  • If you can provide lab test results, the instructor can assist you with analysis and better feedback.
  • Instructor may provide advice for potential improvement of your cider based on the knowledge-base formed in Lesson 6 (Cider Flaws & How to Avoid or Fix Them).  These experimental adjustments may include:
    • Acidity adjustment, increase or decrease
    • Tannin addition
    • Copper treatment for VRS
    • Gum Arabic, or sugar addition
  • Optionally, instructor may guide you in "table trails" to test for possible improvement of your cider through adjustment(s).
  • Note: You will need to bring an un-opened bottle of your cider to this lesson.
