This is an advanced techniques class and students should come with a working knowledge of the all-grain brewing process.

Sour and wild ales have never been more popular in the US and now you can learn to make these exciting beers at home. Join Alec Klassen for an afternoon learning about sour beers and how they're made. This class will follow an open lecture format in which the history, science, and production of tart and funky ales will be presented to and discussed with the class. Students will taste a variety of sour/wild ales from the US and Europe and discuss how they may replicate such styles at home. This class is a great way to try a wide range of these beers without breaking the bank. When the class is over, students should feel confident in their ability to make sour beers without contaminating their clean beers and be inspired to create their own unique ales. Beer will be tasted by those 21 years of age or older.
