The Shurflo Self-Priming Diaphragm Pump is the ultimate transfer pump for the home winemaker. Self-priming means the pump will pull a vacuum and draw liquid from a submerged inlet line into the pump head. The gentle action of the diaphragm mechanism minimizes oxidation and shear stress of your wine during transfers. A 110 Volt motor can transfer wine at a rate of 3 gallons per minute. There is no risk of any metallic interaction with acids in your wine as the pump head is made of food-grade, NSF approved, polypropylene and santoprene.
Flow rate can be controlled by attaching an inline valve to the outflow side of the pump. The Shurflo's self-regulating motor prevents damage to the pump by temporarily shutting down when pressure exceeds temporarily, pump will resume operation once internal pressure falls to safe levels. Inlet and outlet ports of the Shurflo are equipped with 1/2" male NPT posts which accommodate a variety of fittings which can be purchased separately. The Shurflo pump has a maximum temperature rating of 170 °F and is NOT recommended for wort production in brewing applications.
